Departure checklist

4. If exporting a dog or cat, have a registered veterinarian request an Agrocalidad Certificado Zoosanitario de Exportación at least 72 hours before travel through the GUIA system — the resulting health certificate is valid for only 10 days, and destination-country rules (EU antibody titration, US/CDC requirements) vary.
5. Redirect or close Ecuadorian bank accounts and confirm how you'll manage any remaining USD-denominated assets from abroad — Ecuador's dollarized currency simplifies some transfers but not necessarily banking access.
6. Arrange mail forwarding or a trusted local contact for correspondence.
7. Cancel or suspend IESS health and social-security contributions once your destination-country coverage is confirmed and active.
8. Sell or formally export an Ecuadorian-registered vehicle through SENAE customs procedures rather than assuming a personal vehicle can be shipped without a permit.
9. If moving with school-age children, coordinate withdrawal timing with Ecuador's split academic calendar — roughly September to June on the coast (Costa/Galápagos) and April to January in the highlands (Sierra/Amazon) — confirm the regime for your specific province.
